Drupal’s Event : RSS & Outlook iCal synchronization with Remote Calendars
By fiLi • Mar 13th, 2008 • Category: PCA few Drupal sites that I run have the wonderful Event module installed to handle a collaborative event calendar. Users tend to like that feature and every once in a while I get someone telling me that this is one of the more important features those social sites hold. A question that keeps coming up is how they can get updates of what’s happening in that social site to their PDAs and Calendar software. Usually I point them to using the RSS feeds, but recently I’ve received a specific question about Outlook.
Remote Calendar, which some use for a full sync between Google Calendar and Outlook, can actually be used to import any iCal supported data into Outlook (one way). Since Event module supports and exports iCal, it’s easy to set up full sync.
What is RemoteCalendars?
It’s a simple COM-.NET plug-in created for Outlook 2003. Once installed, every Outlook user will be able to subscribe, delete and reload a remote iCalendar. ^
Remote Calendars is a great open-source project to help get calendar updates from other sites into your Outlook.
