Judy Alive : Adopting a 30 old Chinese women

Now, that’s bloody hilarious. Jewish American Judy adopts a somewhat unusual Chinese baby … Here’s Judy Alive : Meet Judy Shapiro,a lonely New York City woman who adopts a Chinese baby girl. When the baby arrives from China, however, it’s a 30-year-old Chinese woman who was kidnapped in Beijing and sold on the black market to an American adoption agency. Judy is so anxious to be a mother, though, that she convinces herself she really does have an infant on her hands. […] Until recently I must admit, I’d been pretty lonely. But then I realized I was just ready to be a mom. But everyone said, "Judy, …

More Sino Phobia : China Bashing in Israeli media

Since I started with two posts about Sino-Phobia, might as well go through with it. Okay, two more from that same morning show, and the same male host, Mr. Avri Gilad. A Chinese female foreign worker, working for an Israeli woman - Miri, goes away for one hour and disappears leaving behind a sweet Chinese kid that knows absolutely no Hebrew. If you were Miri - what …

Online and Offline Chinese-Hebrew Dictionaries

I’m not sure who did this and how, perhaps it’s mediated by English, but there are now a few online dictionaries that can translate between Hebrew and Chinese (מילון עברית סינית, מילון עברי-סיני). How odd, how wonderful. The first and most useful of all is a commercial product of an Israeli company – Babylon. Point at a word in Chinese, do a click combination (shift+click in my settings) and a translation will come up in Hebrew. I was so surprised the first time I noticed there’s a Chinese->Hebrew translation in there, I figured things have changed since I started studying Chinese and it’s probably time to do a short survey of the growing niche and available …

The Chinese Jews : the Kaifeng Chinese integrate in Israel

This is quite a remarkable story of a Chinese Jewish community in Kaifeng-China. Haaretz tells their story with “Taking the Silk Route back home” (found through “Truth from Facts” in Chinalyst): Jin Jin and Nina Wang are students in Hebrew University’s preparatory program. They will soon commence their BA studies, but they already have long-term dreams. Jin wants to eventually serve as a diplomat in the Foreign Ministry. Wang hopes to use her …
