An NCKU International Student makes Taiwan’s front page headlines

Academic achievements? inspired research? not quite. I see the NCKU news center try to make headlines but even the most impressive discoveries and inventions barely make it to page 3. This international student made it to most of the 8 o’clock news and appeared on Taipei Times front page . Here’s how :

A protester [...]

Rare stamp : China’s “The entire nation is red” but Taiwan is white

Through an Israeli blog on stamps I came across this fascinating story about a stamp that was issued in Communist China on November 1968 called “The entire nation is red”. Have a close look :

There’s an interesting story behind this (source) :

The stamp was quickly withdrawn from circulation because Taiwan, which is claimed by the [...]

Since I started with two posts about Sino-Phobia, might as well go through with it. Okay, two more from that same morning show, and the same male host, Mr. Avri Gilad. Two more horrible videos that show some of the dialog regarding China in Israeli media :

Sino-phobia is now all over Israeli media and I promised to continue with a few more examples. People and reporters who know nothing about China and get their entire information through cliches and stereotype make the at most outrageous [...]

Israelis making it out in China – 360Quan and the Koolano group

Israeli newspapers are all over the success of the Israeli headed Koolanoo group in China with the third largest social website called 360Quan. Koolanoo, in case you were wondering, means “all of us” in Hebrew, and I believe the whole thing actually started out with a Jewish social network cloned into Chinese. How bizarre.

360Quan [...]

English Craze in China : Documentary – Mad About English

If you have seen this movie, go find it. I just accidentally bumped into Mad About English (我为英语狂) by Singaporean Lian Pek during late night on channel 8 and found it to be absolutely brilliant. See China and ways of learning English like you’ve never imagined before
Here’s the synopsis :
Since winning the [...]

The Chinese Jews : the Kaifeng Chinese integrate in Israel

This is quite a remarkable story of a Chinese Jewish community in Kaifeng-China. Haaretz tells their story with “Taking the Silk Route back home” (found through “Truth from Facts” in Chinalyst):
Jin Jin and Nina Wang are students in Hebrew University’s preparatory program. They will soon commence their BA studies, but they already have long-term [...]
