Israelis in Taiwan : Shani Weinstein talking on Reshet Bet’s The Israeli Connection

Over a month ago, my father alerted me that Reshet Bet’s Israeli Connection midnight radio show that broadcasts interviews with Israelis all over the world had an interview with an Israeli Chinese language student - Shani Weinstein - who’s living in Taipei to learn more about her life in Taiwan. I visited their website that holds a 24 hours archive and ripped down the interview. I still have difficulties figuring out how to post it here, but I will post a quick translation of the conversation …

Hagigit blog - An Israeli in China - everything that floats

In the past few months I’ve had the pleasure of following a relatively new blog detailing the adventures and thoughts of one Israeli guy in China. Rane’s blog is a must read for any Israeli who’s into Chinese people and culture. It’s a cynical look into the most amusing details of cross-cultural interactions, and every post that I read makes me smile and laugh thinking “damn, that’s SO true, he’s SO right”. Hagigit, written in Hebrew, is one of my favorite reads, and so, as a tribute - I’ll really quickly translate one of the shortest posts to English, one titled “We’re both from the same village” : Chinese is a difficult language - …

Israel-Taiwan connections and related news : March 20th, 2008

Maybe it’s all a coincidence, but in the past two weeks I received alot of Taiwan-Israel related news from various sources, showing that there’s actually a lot more going on between Taiwan and Israel than one would naturally expect. Here are a few news bits that might be interesting for you to check out : The new Israeli OECD membership means a few changes in regulations, and so it was recently announced that the will be no more double tax for Israel and Taiwan. Great news for the Israeli businessmen. [Hebrew article from NFC] The Israeli theater makes a first appearance in Taiwan… in Hebrew! Antigona, by the Habima and Hakameri, will perform next …

China goes… Kosher?

I think this one is just hilarious - Bloomberg’s “China Goes Kosher as Exporters Use Rabbis to Reassure Consumers” : Chinese exporters, facing a U.S. backlash over tainted food products, are turning to an unlikely group of inspectors to help clean up their act: Jewish rabbis. Kosher certifications by rabbis have doubled to more than 300 in China in the past two years, according to the Orthodox Union, a New York-based organization that does inspections. The group expects thousands more plants to get certified in the next few years, covering everything from …

Israelis in Taiwan : Tomer and Jun with Neon and Sababa Pita Bar

It’s great seeing other Israelis doing well in Taiwan. Warms my heart.

The other night, as I was meeting someone at Tainan’s “Hangout”, I picked the newest issue of +886, the Taipei based life style magazine in both Chinese and English, and noticed something familiar on the cover. I stared at it for a few seconds and then asked “hey, that guy on the cover, we know him, right? I can’t remember where - but I’ve seen this guy somewhere”.

Just when I got home and read the article I realized this was Israeli Tomer and his beautiful Malaysian wife - Jun …

China - Israel news : Metal theft and Chinese foreign workers

I’ve just recently found out about the Israeli branch of NT-D-TV and two of their China-Israel related stories.

The first one has to do with metal theft in Israel that seems to originate from the growing need for metal in China.

The second has to do with the problematic situation and sad reality of the foreign Chinese workers in Israel.

Other similar stories can be found in their Youtube profile.
