Israel -> Thailand quickies

Bangkok…. <yawn> The El-Al flight from Israel to Thailand has been as awful as I expected it to be. An ex-Israeli now-Australian elderly has been preaching to me the whole way why Brisbane is where I should be heading and why he had enough of Israel. They don’t have good Humus in Australia, though, he summarized. Bangkok has a new airport, they’re really improving. Thailand has a whole new cost of living for tourists. Stronger Baht (1US$ = ~33 Baht instead of ~40Baht a year ago) and high demand for just about everything Thai caused prices for tourists to go up between 10 to 50 percent since last year. Maybe the same thing happened in Israel with the Shekel, I’m not sure. Kao Shan Rd. is more commercial …

I’m outta here…

.

Every once in a while there are those small moments of clarity in life, where everything makes sense and it all fits into the big picture. Questions are answered, puzzles solved, and harmony overtakes existence. It doesn’t actually change anything, but it allows letting go and seeing things clearly. There’s no other thing in my life that gives me that same sensation as when I go to the movies. It’s an overwhelming consciousness of sympathy and understanding that I can only hope to feel while I’m not there. It so intense, that like profound moments of religious discovery and existential awareness, it is something that you want to share with the world. It doesn’t even take a good movie; it …

My email box…

.

… is always full of such happy news. The comapnies use about the same templates for a rejection letter. Some add that I’m not a Mandrin speaker, some refer to my lack of a work VISA, some figure that I’m not even close to what they are looking for, some don’t respond. It’s so funny, since I’ve never had the experience of a job hunt before :

“Thank you for your interest at XYZ

After careful consideration of your background and qualifications -
which are excellent and most impressive in themselves - we regret to
advise that they do not appear to meet our current specific
requirements. Accordingly we are unable to make you a job offer at this
moment.

We will keep your application on …

Indian meeting…

.I knew I had to confront it at some point. I am doing it bit by bit, taking one step forward every time, so I guess that it was only natural that I’ll let my self take this next one. Not that I was interested in seeing anything today, it was more of a “let’s start wondering about and see where we’ll end up” kind of thing. It was 30c outside with disastrous humidity, but I’ve endured so much worse that I couldn’t care less. After wondering up north of the KhaoSan rd I’ve found myself at some palace next to the Dusit Zoo. I was way too late to see anything, but I thought that going inside for the …

Thai culture…

.

I’ve got this Bangkok life routine all settled. It starts off with the awful Chabad House in the morning for the internet job search till about noon and then, after feeling that I’ve done all that I can in the serious life, I’m off to get a glimpse of the city.

The whole job hunt thing sucks. It’s bad enough doing this in Israel, but doing it while you feel that you’re on vacation is frustrating. It also brings back some distant bad memories of the hectic IT life in Israel (http://www.globes.co.il/serve/globes/docviewasp?did=1000024513&fid=594). Funny thing is that I’m realizing these things take a while. Only now, almost 3 weeks since I’ve left Australia, am I being noticed by Australian companies I’ve …
