International students in Taiwan and NCKU : Considerations, attitudes and impressions

A few months ago I participated in a study performed by first year undergraduates students in NCKU as part of a university program to encourage Taiwanese undergraduates to tackle English academic level research during their first year with the university. A worthy goal indeed. This study was especially interesting for me since it was dealing with research issues I’m very interested in. The study was titled “The Obstacle of Foreign Students at NCKU” although I …

NCKU? but why NCKU? NCKU rankings explored

This is a question I hear alot. It’s also usually followed by “Do you recommend NCKU?”. I get lots of emails and blog comments asking me about NCKU, universities in Taiwan, programs offered, rankings, and the Taiwanese education system. Though I don’t consider myself a big expert, I do have some experience with trying to learn as much as I can about how things work in Taiwan. To the question of whether I recommend coming to study in Taiwan and in what university or program I usually disappoint people by replying that I can’t recommend or not recommend, this is a very big decision that requires the person to do a lot of research prior to deciding this, probably more …

Taiwan Modern Calligraphy : Hsu Yung Chin art exhibition at NCKU

Hsu Yung Chin (徐永進) is a well-known Taiwanese calligrapher who’s doing some very interesting modern “20th-21st century” calligraphy. Every once in a while I visit the NCKU student activity center which is a run-down building that was given to the university student clubs to do with it just about what ever it is they want. There are a few university offices, like the student counseling center and other health services, but the one I was curious about was the mysterious art gallery on the ground floor.   …

Heart’s Desire - wonderful student drama play performed at NCKU

Oh, how I longed for a show in English. It’s been a while since I saw a show, any show, maybe almost a year. When a group of shy Taiwanese approached me with a card about a play in English called “Heart’s Desire” that was going to take place in NCKU, I was thrilled. I didn’t expect much, since it was suppose to be a FLLD students from National Chi Nan University but after I went there I have to say it was absolutely terrific and I had a really good time. Here’s a bit about Heart’s …

The NCKU Cosplay Event : The beautiful Cosplay Taiwanese girls #3

First part of the NCKU Cosplay event is on “Asian Pop Culture : Gorgeous Japanese Cosplay @ NCKU-Tainan-Taiwan“, second part is on “Anime comes alive : Stunning Naruto Cosplay Costumes at NCKU’s Cosplay Event #2″.

Cosplay looks great, and there’s something a bit kinky about it. Really. No matter how you look,  I think that with Cosplay you’d look better, and if you’re a girl there’s a good chance you’d look a bit sexier, or cuter, and I know girls know that. I have a confirmed suspicion that some girls in the event were not that into their characters as they were into dressing up and posing for the camera.

This last collection is a tribute to the beautiful Taiwanese …
