India - Day 17 - Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh on the way to Udaipur

The trip wasn’t well planned. We were too lazy to plan anything ourselves and ended up totally relying on agents that seemed like they knew something but as we executed their plan we always found out that they had their agenda. The drive day from Jodhpur to Udaipur through Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh was a bit insane. The Indian roads really aren’t a pleasure to drive through especially for a whole day, and our driver was behaving strangely. After a motivation-less day for our driver where he was trying to convince us into shortcuts he suddenly regain his energies through a friend he met in our last hotel. Thing is, drivers are either taken care of by the hotel we …

India - Day 16 - Jodhpur - Meherangarh castle, Jaswant Thada and the Jodhpur gardens

Early early in the morning, we met our new driver in Pushkar and set out to reach Jodphur. Our driver was well prepared for the fact that his car had no heating, but we weren’t. Till the sun went up, we were freezing our ass off, the only thing warming us a bit was the stops we had on the way for some boiling hot Chai milk-tea. At that point even my dad was willing to forgo his well-justified Indian water fright. But it was well worth it, since we got to our destination early and had alot of time to enjoy the pleasures of beautiful picturesque Jodhpur, giving Jaipur a strong competition for my “most-beautiful” title for cities in …

India - Day 15 - Chilling out at Pushkar

Northern India was cold, really cold. We were told that it was the worst winter in 90 years, and that in China millions of Chinese were stuck because of sudden snow on their way home for Chinese New Years. Northern India, and especially Pushkar isn’t well prepared for this kind of cold, having no heating systems what so ever, and so we kept covering ourselves in thick layers of blankets and still feeling a bit cold. Both my dad and I couldn’t help it, we both got sick, but atleast we got the weekend in Pushkar to try and recover, just chilling out in this lovely little quiet town. We stayed with an Israeli-Indian couple who opened an Israeli hostel. …

India - Day 14 - Jaipur’s Amber Fort, Lake Palace, and Holy Saturday at Pushkar

Early, 7am, we got ready to head to my favorite Indian fort - Jaipur’s Amber Fort. That marble structure up on the mountains against the clouded blue skies looking down at the old city is a sight I’ll never forget. Ever.     …

India - Day 13 - Agra’s Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, and Jaipur

The Taj, is, well, is, eh… damn, it’s gorgeous. I can’t find anything new and interesting to say but that it’s, eh… damn, it’s gorgeous. It really is. We woke up early, really early, and made our way to the Taj Mahal and spent a few hours there. I’ve already found myself a new hobby in India of trying to make friends with the few Taiwanese that I met along the way, and Agra was the first place I actually saw them, in big groups. It was great.    …

India - Day 12 - Legendary Agra - Red Fort, Little Taj Mahal and Agra’s craftsmen

We spent an exhausting night on a non-sleeper bus to Delhi, where - at 4:00am, we had to bargain our way through money thirsty Rickshaw drivers from the empty bus-station to the New Delhi train station where our train was going to take us further south. It was horrible. But, we finally made it to the legendary Agra, which was on a completely different tourist scale than where we’ve been to till then. We got a pre-paid Rickshaw to go hotel hunting, which my dad later decided was going to spend the whole day with us showing us around Agra.  …
