Sex and Shanghai’s China-Bounder Revealed

All good scandals come to an end. Can’t remember what this is about? Check “China : Sex, Pride and a bit about Israel” and “Is Chinabounder’s Sex and Shanghai back?!” (and maybe a lecture I gave with his casestudy on “Blogging Ethics - Anonymity Freedom of Speech vs. the Dark Side”). Sex and Shanghai’s Chinabounder (流氓外教) story was a great tale to tell about the mysteries of Chinese netizens behavior and expat-local sensitivities, but now – finally – we can …

The Chinese Jews : the Kaifeng Chinese integrate in Israel

This is quite a remarkable story of a Chinese Jewish community in Kaifeng-China. Haaretz tells their story with “Taking the Silk Route back home” (found through “Truth from Facts” in Chinalyst): Jin Jin and Nina Wang are students in Hebrew University’s preparatory program. They will soon commence their BA studies, but they already have long-term dreams. Jin wants to eventually serve as a diplomat in the Foreign Ministry. Wang hopes to use her …

The New World : China through the eyes of Israeli TV

People have been asking me what I think of this show, and till yesterday I didn’t get a chance to see it. “New World” is an Israeli TV show from Channel 10 and nana with the wonderful Nitzan Horovitz who tries to envision the new world we’re going into, and the first episode – yeah, you guessed it, is about China with the explosive title “The Chinese Century”. It’s really neat that all the episodes of the show were placed on the net, encouraging reader interaction : …

Hagigit blog - An Israeli in China - everything that floats

In the past few months I’ve had the pleasure of following a relatively new blog detailing the adventures and thoughts of one Israeli guy in China. Rane’s blog is a must read for any Israeli who’s into Chinese people and culture. It’s a cynical look into the most amusing details of cross-cultural interactions, and every post that I read makes me smile and laugh thinking “damn, that’s SO true, he’s SO right”. Hagigit, written in Hebrew, is one of my favorite reads, and so, as a tribute - I’ll really quickly translate one of the shortest posts to English, one titled “We’re both from the same village” : Chinese is a difficult language - …

China goes… Kosher?

I think this one is just hilarious - Bloomberg’s “China Goes Kosher as Exporters Use Rabbis to Reassure Consumers” : Chinese exporters, facing a U.S. backlash over tainted food products, are turning to an unlikely group of inspectors to help clean up their act: Jewish rabbis. Kosher certifications by rabbis have doubled to more than 300 in China in the past two years, according to the Orthodox Union, a New York-based organization that does inspections. The group expects thousands more plants to get certified in the next few years, covering everything from …

China and Taiwan links : January 16th 2008

There are a lot of interesting China and Taiwan news articles and blog posts/videos I encountered today and are well-worth your read. Here they are with a short excerpt :   China - I absolutely adore everything about Sexy Beijing - their videos, their blog, and the lovely Su Fei. Here’s their latest video about “Price Shock: Food Inflation in China” :   China - The $1.4 Trillion Question Through the quarter-century in which China has been opening to world trade, Chinese leaders have deliberately held down living standards for their own people and propped them up in the United States. This is the real meaning of the vast trade surplus—$1.4 …
