Florida State University was my academic home for 6 months while I was on a research attachment to the United States. I’ve been to a fair share of campuses throughout the united states, and though there’s nothing too extraordinary about the FSU campus it was nicer than I expected. Large lawns, red stone architecture, decent facilities and reasonable food options.

I spent most of my time here, in a room allocated to me together with another neuroscience postdoc…

Tallahassee mostly enjoyed blue skies and puffy clouds, making it fairly easy to catch gorgeous HDR photos of the campus buildings.

Here, walk with me…

Taking those campus photos on my last week on campus during a cold February day, I realized the strong contrasts between the FSU campus and the campus of HKUST – my host university in Hong Kong. FSU has lots of space, a bit of history, lots of separate building for the different faculties and schools, a very relaxed charming atmosphere set in a rather tranquil quiet university-government town. HKUST has very little space, almost no history, one academic building (with a new business school building opened recently), a very hectic high-pressure workaholic atmosphere in one of the most intense cities on earth. It is no wonder, then, that it took me several weeks to readjust to my return to Hong Kong, and even after several months I’m not sure I’ve fully recovered. Either way, Florida State is likely to stay with me for long. Good times indeed.
