The 2009 Miss Universe Pageant is held at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas. Following our annual routine, we take a quick look at this year’s global perceptions of Asian beauty through the national contestants. Last year’s (2008) Miss Universe was Miss Venezuela Danyana Mendoza, and it was Miss Japan that made Asian beauty proud in 2007.
Following are the Asian contestants for Miss Universe 2009.

Anything that strikes you as different or interesting in the national contestants for the East Asian countries participating?
(Anyways, I say… Indonesia, how about you?)
Compare this to previous years in :

Nitzan – Huh? :S What’s different about the way the Malay Filipino Vietnamese girls look?
Nitzan | September 3rd, 2009 at 9:21 pm #
I am not sure about Vietnamese i think they are mixture some looks like chinese whreas some looks like Thai/Khmer …
as for Phillipinas they looks quite different (i mean the most who doesn’t have Chinese/European ancestry).
Malay people has larger eyes and has natural brown skin.
In east Indonesia they have some Papuan (malenesian) influence such as darker skin curly hair.

Ha, thanks for the vote for Ms. Indonesia :)
But I think all contestants this year were beautiful.
As for the culture groups in Indonesia (Nitzan), we have 500 (or even more) of them, and they all look different from each other. So, it’s difficult to describe a typical Indonesian look.
