I’m not entirely sure why, but Aberdeen is on most of the tourist guidebooks as a Hong Kong top attraction. I’ve never really considered the concept of a floating restaurant or a dinner sail too appealing, but since we were in Stanley anyways, we thought we’d drop by and have a look.

After a local massage, where I did the mistake of acknowledging that I understand some Mandarin half way through only to receive a nonstop babble about foreigners in Hong Kong for the second half, we went to see what that Jumbo floating restaurant was all about.

We took the free ferry out and arrived at a neon monstrosity… filled with every possible Hong Kong Chinese cliché possible.

Since we couldn’t afford an 800HK$pp dinner and my sister is vegetarian, we took up on a local’s suggestion to visit a place called "Veggie Delights".

If you’re thinking that doesn’t look very delicious, then you’re right – it wasn’t. Somehow, all the vegetarian food we had in Hong Kong was either unbelievably overpriced or just plainly tasteless, which is odd – because when I faced the same situation in Taiwan with my mom all the vegetarian food we had in strict Buddhist places was absolutely superb and very cheap.

Atleast I ticked that one off my to-do list. A tourist trap for tourist groups, I’d say. If you’re in the area, stick with Stanley.
