You’re all probably familiar with Facebook & Twitter by now. If you’re not, you’re my idol – you’ve managed to escape two of the most time consuming socially enforcing phenomenons currently pushing their way through the net. Although I’m considered by most friends and family as an early adopter of technology, especially "all that social thing that’s going on", that’s not always entirely the case.

I do try to mess around with most of the stuff that comes out, especially when it’s social web and new media related, but I also make a very quick decision whether I’m going to use the new tool or not. Between the very time consuming online emailing, blogging, RSS reading and the occasional multiple-platform messaging or video chatting, the first consideration when it comes to adoption is time related – will this new thing save me time or not- either long term or short term. Seeing how my friends and peers initially used Facebook and Twitter, it was an immediate turn off. It took me a while to try and engage Facebook and Twitter with something a bit more meaningful. Till now, I’m still playing around trying to figure out what those can better do for me instead of against me. There are obvious things that I like about both platforms, but there are some serious downsides – time and efficiency being the major concern. However, it does seem that with the increasing number of tools to automate, connect and simplify the usage of those social networks, Facebook and Twitter now allow for a more meaningful social interaction that I can manage relatively effectively with slowly increasing returns. Atleast I hope so.

The one very positive thing about social-web has been the ability for me to connect with people that share my areas of interests. Assuming that those following this blog are somehow included in this vague definition of a group, I’d like to invite you to make this more of a two-side interaction by getting in touch with me through some of those networks.

If you’re on Facebook and are following the blog, you’re welcome to join the blog page on Facebook and "become a fan", in the always awkward Facebook jargon. It would allow you to see others that are following the blog, perhaps interact with them as well, maybe suggest or discuss a thing or two regarding what you see on the blog. Even if not, you might consider that a tribute of your appreciation for what you read here :P

I’m genuinely!! a *fan* of your writing.. seems like I’ve been reading your blog.. now about 3 years or so. wooah! I appreciate your persepective AND the sharing.

I’m always a slow adopter of technology. Facebook still puzzles me sometimes, although my initial hatred(?) has gone already, and I have no idea about that twitter thing.. what’s that.. nah I’m not into it.. lol to me, youtube is the killer, of time.

I kinda miss the time when I actually write letters to friends, waiting for a program on radio, saving money and buying LP and so on..

    cheers, rock on!

Yuri – Thanks :$ that means a lot to me.

I also miss the good old naive days where things were more simple. I can still remember the days we had to go to the end of the block to make a phonecall from a public phone and wait for the operator to dial abroad. Makes me feel a bit nostalgic.
