I’ve seen some nice Buddhas in Taiwan, but this cute temple in Hong Kong gives Buddha a whole new twist. Next to Pai Tau Village in the Shatin area lies the road leading up to the mountain-top Ten Thousand (10000) Buddhas Monastery (Man Fat Tsz).
If you think, like I did, that the number 10000 is an exaggeration, think again. Going up the mountain to the temple there are thousands of Buddhas, some of them very different and unique. Trust me, I took a photo of most of them.
Here are some of the ones I really liked for how their "personality" is projected :
This Buddha seems to be talking on his mobile…
We had a long discussion whether this next Buddha…
is riding a peacock or a phoenix (I say phoenix).
But that’s just the road leading up. There are a few thousands more up where the temple is, some having a hint of Hinduism to them.
What’s this Buddha’s reaching for ?
The temple itself is very nice, even if not very active.
The views from the top are what you would expect from a cloudy Hong Kong day…
Maybe Taiwan and Hong Kong aren’t that different after all. Definitely a place worth checking.

So…that’s more Buddha’s than I care to see for the rest of my life. And you took individual pictures of most of them? That’s impressive. My arms would be too tired after #15!

Josh – ^_^ you know… I had to, they were just so cute (honestly, I do feel bad for the 9000 buddhas I didn’t take a photo of, I hope they’ll understand).
