The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defense is another one of those great HK themed museums that’s really nice to visit. It’s situated in local fort built by the British around the end of the 19th century overlooking a beautiful typical HK landscape or blue waters, low mountains, and the almost impossible contrast of endless skyscrapers next to small fishing villages.
As you could expect from a coastal defense museum, it has a run-through of most of Hong Kong’s history starting from 6000 years ago, highlighting the Ming, Qing and British dynasties, mainly repeating the need to defense against the Japanese barbarian pirates. Outside, it included a display of cannons from all periods …
with ruins of buildings demonstrating the difficult soldier life at the fort…

The museum and setting look absolutely stunning. My favorite photo is of the old fishing boat in contrast to the skyscrapers in the background.
