NCKU IIMBA Field-Trip to ITRI

If you’re living in Taiwan and work in anything related to IT then you’ve probably heard about ITRI:

Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) – a national research organization that serves to strengthen the technological competitiveness of Taiwan.

Since our inception, ITRI has three mission statements: first, to expedite the development of new industrial technology; two, to aid in the process of upgrading industrial technology techniques; and three, to establish future industrial technology.

It’s a very interesting concept, and as far as the Taiwan IT industry it seems to be doing alot to promote IT related businesses and innovation in Taiwan.

NCKU IIMBA’s IT Project Management course paid ITRI a visit to find out a bit more about what they do and how they manage their IT projects. I joined in.

I’ll start from what I think is an interesting cultural phenomenon, as I’ve seen this happen quite a few times already. Here’s how the lecturer introduced himself to us.

Notice the blood type and personality description ^_^  . This is how I’ve seen some top executives and project managers kick off their lectures here in Taiwan. I find this to be very odd and extremely amusing.

Working environment is as you’d expect from the IT industry, without most of the "innovation" "free spirit" stuff I remember from similar things back in Israel, and yet having the mandatory massage chairs and modern chairs.

The campus is quite nice. Modern architecture, though quite empty.

ITRI has been kind enough to show us around and share some of what they can share.

There’s SO much going on in Taiwan when it comes to IT. Endless opportunities for those willing to pursue them.
