    Nice work !
I was just checking about university ranking in Asia and got to your page from 2006. Then I found this new collection that is really nice.

My comment is not on the list but on the organizations that make them. Most sources quotes only the Times ranking that is based on American criteria and the list looks accordingly. Most of the other list are not so different. I stil find it hard to believe that South Korea that is a world leader in some field of electronics and others have no university in the top of any of these lists. Japan is a leading world economy, economy that is based on technology and knowledge, and have only 1-3 universities in top 50 of the major lists. Even Israel that is a center for world research despite of it’s size, doesn’t have anything it the top of the lists.

Ron – Thanks. I generally agree that those rankings have a strong bias towards western criteria for research and teaching, although you’d probably notice that one of those is actually done by a Chinese university.
With that said, it is getting better with time… and there are a few that are making it slowly up there. NUS and some of the HK universities are a good example.
I’m still looking for an alternative to help me understand universities in Asia.

I think the list of ‘top u rankings for Asia 2008-Jiao Tung’ are (litte bit) bias, unfair,& not comprehensive – because:

    a. more to ‘chinese regions’ (e.g s’pore, japn, chn, hokg etc), whereas ‘other regions’(e.g India, Israel etc) also include ‘QS top u in the world’ ???

    b. The top u in Malaysia are UM, UKM, UPM & USM: almost every year (also based on the QS rankng 2008), why’s selected UTM as the top in Malaysia in ur list???

Hi all, I have the opportunity to take a year abroad and among the possibilities there is the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I'm currently a student in International Business and Management so I wanted to ask if anybody has some informations/advices about it.
    Thanks!

Armin – there are some discussions on that in Geoexpat (http://www.geoexpat.com/forum/forum71.html). Like – http://www.geoexpat.com/forum/thread41709.html
It's suppose to be a very -local- university. As I'm currently with HKUST, I suggest you look into that. University of Hong Kong, Chinese U and City U are some of the more "international" options.

Good luck. Let me know what you decided to do.

Thanks Fili for the quick and useful response!
Since my university is only offering the polytechnic university as opportunity in Hong Kong I think I'll have to go for the opportunities in Canada or Danemark…

  • Maloni

Hi, greeting from the Island kingdom of Tonga (South Pacific) how about the Uni from Malaysia such as UPM

  • http://www.filination.com/blog Fili

Azrulzxeros & Maloni – I'm afraid that when it comes to modern academics, the Malaysian universities are simply not doing well enough to be included in those rankings.
