Michael Turton and his race for the best Taiwan politics blog (go vote) got me motivated to put up a small blog awards for our little blogosphere. Hope you’ll like the idea and would want to take part.
Information is posted here : http://www.taiwanderful.net/blog/taiwan-best-blog-awards-2008
Voting will begin on the 1/10 and will close 31/10, registration of blogs that wish to participate is always open.
Hopefully, our Taiwan blogosphere will have some good cross-blog promotion fun and help boost some of the lesser known Taiwan blogs.
Following is the post I wrote on Taiwanderful:
To celebrate the Taiwan blogosphere excellence we’re suggesting a small Taiwan Best Blog title award among the Taiwan blogs registered at the Taiwanderful Taiwan Blog directory.
Taiwan Blog Award features
All Taiwan blogs registered at Taiwanderful can participate. If your blog doesn’t show up at Taiwanderful, then sign up for a username and simply add it to the directory. Registered blog owners may edit their blog’s details at any time.
The Taiwan Blog Awards will also have category-based awards, to match the Taiwanderful Taiwan Blog categories (providing that there is more than one blog in the category) –
- Best Education Blog
- Best General Blog
- Best “Other” Blog
- Best Personal Blog
- Best Photography Blog
- Best Politics Blog
- Best Religion Blog
- Best Travel Blog
- Best Video-Podcast Blog
Method
There are no judges and no nominations. This Taiwan Blog Awards is only based on voting and if you have a Taiwan blog registered at Taiwanderful then you’re in.
The voting implemented is a positive Digg style voting mechanism (no minuses "-" or "bury"), which allows all visitors to vote for all their favorite Taiwan blogs. Every visitor can contribute one vote per blog for as many Taiwan blogs as they like. The blog that gets the most votes within a certain category is declared "The best Taiwan <category> blog".
Support
Support is given through the “troubleshooting and FAQ” forum on Taiwanderful.
Taiwan Blog Awards Schedule

- Till 30/09/2008 - Taiwan blogs that haven’t registered to Taiwanderful can still be added till the end of the month to allow a fair start for all. Existing Taiwanderful blogs may change their categorization, description, tags etc. to help promote their blogs.
- From 01/10/2008 till 31/10/2008 - Voting will open for all. Blogs may still register during this process.
- 11/2007 – Voting closed. Best Taiwan Blogs announced.

Taiwan Blog Awards notes
- It is highly recommended for blog owners to login to Taiwanderful and edit their blog’s description to add an introduction. It is also recommended that an image or logo be added to the blog description to attract readers and voting.
- Blog Awards are great for promoting link-love between the Taiwan blogs. If you write a blog and you like a certain blog then link to it asking your readers to vote for it. Link-love between the Taiwan blogs helps promote the whole Taiwan blogosphere and Taiwan related content on the web.
- This whole thing is just for fun! Like any system, I’m sure that the system can be abused, but I’m counting on the general good of the Taiwan blogosphere that this will not happen.
- My personal blog appears on Taiwanderful but will not be counted for the Taiwan Blog Awards.
- This is the first time Taiwanderful is running the Taiwan Blog Awards. Any suggestions, comments or ideas are very welcome.

Sounds cool Fili. It will be hard to vote. There are so many great blogs out there.

Carrie - thanks. Digg style voting means you can vote for as many of those good blogs as you like. It wouldn’t be the one or the other. Don’t know if that’s the best way to implement voting, but it’s definitely the most positive one
We’ll see how that goes.
