Male Taiwanese singers : A-Yue - 張震嶽 (Zhāng Zhènyùe)

Male Taiwanese singers : A-Yue - 張震嶽 (Zhāng Zhènyùe) This is the 5th post on the topic of Taiwanese music and musicians. Previous posts include :

  1. Mandarin Chinese music - More great singers I listen to in Taiwan - Wong Faye, 陳綺貞
  2. Pop Chinese music in Taiwan continued : Joi Chua (蔡淳佳) and Jay Chou (周杰倫)
  3. Taiwanese music - Recommended Mandarin Chinese artists from Taiwan - 張惠妹, 張懸, 楊乃文
  4. A-Mei Zhang Hui 張惠妹 : Aboriginal Taiwanese Mando-Pop music

This time it’s more about the Taiwanese male pop stars, which I got to know thanks to my northern Taiwan friend.

Those sensitive to appearances may notice straight away that A-Yue (張震嶽  - Zhāng Zhènyùe) is Aboriginal.  I believe he’s most famous in Taiwan for a song almost 10 years old now called “love me, don’t go” (愛我別走 - Ai4 Wo3 Bie2 Zou3) :

He seemed to have moved between genres of music. This next song - 思念是一種病 - is of a somewhat different style :

And then finally go Taiwanese style “Hiphop” with this next song that I hear quite often with a title I naturally agree with - “我愛臺媒 - wo3 ai4 tai2 mei3 - I love Taiwanese girls” (although it’d be nice if the rest of the sentence - 臺妹愛我 – would hold as well :P ).

Like it? they say the guy runs a blog. Check him out on youtube.

Winnie - donno, can’t say that I like the guy’s general music style, but everytime I go to KTV his songs are played, sometimes by girls. I take it you’re not into this…

Well, I didn’t say “you” like the song. Just couldn’t figure out why people like to have the song played. I shouldn’t have left the message in Chinese. That made me misunderstood. :P

fine i really wasnt gonna say anything cause that would makes me too talktive on this board, anyways, hope this helps.

Well…Why is 我愛台妹 popular in Taiwan? (by the way maybe 台 is more local ) Because about 3 years ago, there is this Taiwanese trend started among youngsters to love the Taiwanese local (lower class/ labor class) style “台客風” (as an anti-social atmosphere, instead of mocking them like youngsters had always been) They start wearing clothing of local traits, such as flip-flop人字拖鞋(both gender). Guys wearing colorful print beach shirt (unusually over flowery) , also start worship 台妹 those who dress like Beatlenut girls (that dressing style used to be despised and regarded as low class, poison of fashion sense they say), Young local Taiwanse style bands like 閃亮三姊妹( Shilvering Three Sisters )and 夾子大樂隊(Clippers Nakashi Band) alive again and beame extreme popular, here is one 夾子classic song of Taiwanese local style http://tw.youtube.com/watch?v=VOn-ckeEqAc (俗又有力 Cheap but powerful ! )

Those who lead this trend such as MC Hot Dog in hiphop (which used to be regarded as pop culture leading trend), and 張震越 as local rocker, they organized台客搖滾嘉年華( TK Rock ) in台中 the following year 2006, invited all the Taiwanese local band join , such as 伍佰,陳昇,etc. and it was a great success , (So much fun! ) here is the website– http://taik.streetvoice.com/ but 2008 event is postponed

I wonder has anyone regarded this as one kind of social movement. 台客運動

我愛台妹is popular in Taiwan because of the influence of this trend. They say Local Taiwanses style (not western, not japanses, not korean style)is the King Style. ‘台客風才是王道啦!
