Instead of taking the train/HSR up to the airport, I took the regular night bus. It reminded me of my first arrival in Taiwan a few years back. Never in my life, anywhere else, have I seen anything like it.
I’m a tall guy, way too tall for the average seats they give me at most buses and airplanes, but in the Taiwan’s super buses I’m at last content. Those huge sofa machines allow even folks like me to enjoy a smooth comfortable ride.
Every sofa has it private screen with headphones built onto the sofa where you set your head down. The sofa is adjustable in every possible way you can think of and the Video On Demand entertainment – although interface is in Chinese – is absolutely brilliant. Better than any business-class flights I’ve been to.
In the side drawers I found blankets and a video-game controller if I want to have some interactive entertainment.
From Tainan to Nankan-Taoyuan and a 5 minute shuttle to the airport, in total 3.5 hours. I guess there’s really no reason to take the train/HSR. Best bus ride I’ve had, anytime, anywhere. Brilliant.
