Tainan McDonalds mysteriously missing Taiwan Independence Newsweek articles
First time I didn’t think much of it, but now I think there’s something going on.
Yes, I sometimes eat at McDonalds. Yes, I made a special effort not to eat at McDonalds before I came to Taiwan. It was a long process of becoming friendlier with this evil fast food chain and now I drop by every once in a while when it’s really late coming back from university and the thought of having fried snacks, ZongZi or Tapinyaki makes me a feel food-tired. There are a few things that are nicer about McDonalds here than back in Israel and one of them is the magazine stand they have on the side of the door which sometimes includes a few English newspapers, like Times or Newsweek.
Anyways, Newsweek runs the occasional Taiwan, Taiwan-China, Taiwan Independence articles, especially with the elections and all that. When I see those at the table of content I’m usually curious and searching for them. But, it seems someone in the Tainan McDonalds branches is either very fund of or isn’t happy about those as I usually find them torn out. Here, take a look.
A Newsweek magazine at McDonalds…
The Table of Content saying that on page 24 there’s an interesting article on Taiwan vs. Independence…
I browse to page 24, but the pages from 22 till 28 are gone.
Who’s going around Tainan McDonalds ripping out Taiwan independence articles from English magazines? are they just keeping the good stuff for themselves or are they censoring it from others? could it be that McDonalds is doing it? nah, that would be too far fetched.
Mysterious, eh? just thought of sharing that strange one with you… I’m gonna keep an eye on that from now on…

I took them.
