A-Mei is something slightly different. An Aboriginal Taiwanese gifted with a great voice and unique charm, she’s made her way up to become one of Taiwan’s best known Mando-Pop super-stars.
A-mei (阿妹; ā mèi), also known by her birth name Zhang Huimei or as Chang Hui-mei (張惠妹, 张惠妹; Zhāng Huìmèi), is an aboriginal Taiwanese pop singer and occasional songwriter. She is also known by her aboriginal name 古歷來·阿蜜特 (Gulilai Amit). She was born in the rugged mountains of eastern Taiwan and is the third youngest of nine siblings. A-mei made her debut in the world of music in 1996, achieving instant mega commercial success. She has frequently been called a diva of the Mandarin pop music scene, as well as the “Pride of Taiwan”. She has won numerous music awards and become one of the biggest music sensations within the pop music pantheon of the Mandarin-speaking world. (Wikipedia)
I do like her songs… most of them are great for KTV. My favorites, obviously, are the slower ones.

Okay, for dessert, let’s do something a bit livier and maybe, eh, maybe, a bit more Aboriginal.

The thing I’m not really sure about is whether she’s still putting out albums… is she?

I love her music and I’ve written about some of her hits in my Blog, A-Mei performed “Forever Friends” most recently–the Chinese version with A-Mei is the best and I really like her performance in “Taiwan Touch Your Heart” such a great talent.

Cristy Li - your blog is very interesting and it’s the first time I find something slightly similar to my blog in that it combines a bit of Taiwan, China and Israel (with US politics :P). I’m an Israeli in Taiwan, but I couldn’t quite figure out your background. Would be happy to hear more about that.
