Spring break. Some of the students I know are down at Kending for the Spring Scream, some just chilling out, some went back to their families to do some family tomb cleaning for the national Tomb Sweeping Day. I was just looking for some relaxation, and was actually planning to take the highway 88 to the east coast going up the 3600m mountain. But, plans changed and so I ended up touring one of Kaohsiung County’s hidden gems – Little Liu Chiu.

From Dong-Gang, there are a few ferries going back and forth every day. The local touts, which used to p!ss me off in India, were extremely friendly and helpful, offering various island packages. A whole day visit with a back-n-forth ferry, a motorbike, & all island attractions will cost you a bargain 850NT$. If you’re into doing things yourself then motorbikes are dirt cheap once you land on the island (200NT$) .

On the boat there were some folks carrying on a funeral wearing traditional funeral clothing, banging and chanting the whole way through.

The ferry ride took about 20 minutes…

With gorgeous little fishing boats on the way…

The island is absolutely beautiful. I haven’t felt this peaceful and relaxed in a long time, with crystal clear water on sandy-rocky beaches, some truly gorgeous natural attractions and the real Taiwan temple culture :

There are a lot of cozy little homestays on the island, usually hosting couples and student groups…

Stunning temples are everywhere, almost a temple for every person on the island, and it keeps expanding – I noticed 3 large temples are currently being constructed …

I love days like these in Taiwan. This is one beautiful country.

Nice photos. I’ve spent a night in Donggang – actually the same holiday last year – but didn’t make it to the island.

Thanks. I should really get myself a normal camera like most of the other bloggers, eh?

Donggang was nice too. I had a nice expensive sea-food dinner there with all kinds of exciting things I’ve never tried before :P
Are there any Donggang attractions I missed?
