WHY DID YOU WRITE “CHINA-TW” FOR ALL TAIWANESE UNIVERSITIES? WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN? YOU KNOW TAIWAN IS NOT A PART OF CHINA, SO DON’T LABEL TAIWAN AS “CHINA-TAIWAN”. TAIWAN IS AN INDEPENDENT SOVEREIGN COUNTRY. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, BUDDY.

Mike – if you’ve read anything on this website you’d know that this is something I’m highly sensitive to. The only reason it says China-TW is because it’s quoted from a different source who regards China and Taiwan to be one. This in no way reflects my political opinion.

BTW – if you want to be heard and understood on this topic, I suggest taking a more calm and polite attitude.

I heard, in terms of reputation, quality of graduates, teaching methodology and quality of professors, Asian Institute of Management (AIM,Philippines) and Indian Institute of Management(IIM, India) are the Harvard and Yale in Asia Pacific. I was informed that, althoug it is harder to get in IIM, AIM is more expensive and has better diversity among Asian being able to attract other Asians like Thai, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesian, Malaysia. While IIM is mostly Indians. I want to go to AIM Philippines), but tuition is US 24,000 plus 2-year housing, food, thesis, international student exchange expense which could be double that amount too. The US24K is cash because loan is just too expensive at 9% per month. Is there a cheaper way to do this? I feel that if I can get a top Asian MBA degree, I will have a unique advantage to work either in the US or Asia. Also top Asian MBA will be the way to go in the future if you already have an Ivy League undergrad. It’s like 2 Ivies from Asia and America, giving you the diversity, flexibility and unique advantage to work in both continents. What do you think?

World Executive Digest is published in the Philippines and is located just a baseball pitch away from the AIM. The publisher of WED is also a graduate of AIM. Maybe you should check your source before putting much credence in them. WED is certainly not a neutral source of information regarding the best MBA programs in Asia.

The AIM is a good “vocational” school but its target market is the expatriate manager who was sent to the Philippines by his company. That is the reason the fees are denominated in dollars. You don’t enrol in AIM for the mind expanding knowledge it could give you. You enrol in AIM because you (a) were sent there by your company, or (b) you are an expatriate manager and are bored, or (c) you want the prestige of having an MBA added to your name.

Also, many readers keep mentioning the Ivy League without even knowing what it means. The Ivy League was founded as an ATHLETIC association and only later did it start having connotations of academic excellence. While the ivy league schools are indeed some of the top universities in the world, there are also many universities in America and the world that are equally as prestigious and as renowned for academics as are the ivy leagues. MIT, Cambridge, Stanford, Caltech, and UCB come to mind immediately.

The thing about Indian schools is they're not very famous outside of India. You often come across Indians touting the merits of such schools as IIT; however, they are not true international schools. They attract ONLY the best of India. They're not schools people outside of India will look into. They are highly selective, but that's because everybody in India applies to them, whether they are qualified or not. It's probably the same with almost every other Asian school, but I, as an Asian, do not consider the Harvad and Yale of Asia to be situated in India and the Philippines, and I doubt anyone from Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam would think so. For the Chinese, the Harvard of Asia is Peking University. For the Japanese, it is Todai. For the Indians, it is IIT. There is no school that dominates Asia, in that they would give up a spot at their own nation's top school to go to. No Indian would give up a spot at IIT to go to Peking. No Chinese woudl give up a spot at Peking to go to IIT.

I never understood this “Ivy” of Asia thing. Asia is not like the US. There is no “Ivy” of Asia. Every country has their own, and despite these rankings above that try to compare one school of one country to another of another country, anyone with knowledge of how Asia works will know that each country has an elite school within their own boundaries that they prefer. At least in Asia that is the case.
