China’s Mister World 2007 - Asia

Some have been telling me that with all the Miss World 2006, Miss Universe 2006, Miss Universe 2007, Miss Earth 2007 I’m showing a strong tendency to put gorgeous Asian women on my blog while neglecting the male beauty that’s around these parts of the world. Eh, true, after all - I’m a guy. But, here’s a chance for me to do some justice, with the upcoming Mister World 2007 that is to be held in our own Asian home-court - China.

Here are the Asian Mister World contestant for the China Mister World 2007 event:

Mandarin Chinese music - More great singers I listen to in Taiwan - Wong Faye, 陳綺貞

Want more Taiwanese music? don’t know where to start? I don’t either, but following my previous attempt at “Taiwanese music - Recommended Mandarin Chinese artists from Taiwan” I’ll continue to share my limited experience with some great Taiwanese music I get from some of my Taiwanese friends and classmates. This time I’ve got two more for you that I enjoy listening to: Wong Faye (王菲) Okay, maybe she’s not Taiwanese - being born in Mainland China, and some of her music is not in Mandarin, but she’s a Taiwanese idol and well-worth a listen. Wong Faye (王菲) has a great voice that reminds me of the wonderful Irish Cranberries, and not just because she loves to do their cover songs. …

Taiwanese TV Drama in Israel : Watch Taiwan’s Devil Beside You in Hebrew

Finally, Taiwanese TV popular culture makes it to Israel, with a wonderful effort in translating the Taiwan TV drama “Devil beside you” into Hebrew(traditional Chinese: 惡魔在身邊, Hebrew : השטן לצידך). The Asian TV drama craze in Israel began while I was still there with the wonderful Korean drama “My Lovely Sam Soon” making it into the Israeli telenovela channel schedule 3 times a day, and it’s great to see that more and more Asian …

Fili’s Taiwan Tours - showing Israelis around Tainan

And I thought walking around carrying an Asian baby gets attention. You want real attention? try walking around Tainan with a religious Israeli couple, that should get the Taiwanese really curious. “What’s that thing on his head?” they ask me, once they realize that I’m the only one with basic Chinese in our small group. Try and explain to a local Taiwanese chewing a betelnut in some Tainan temple what a Kippa (Yamaka) is. We did the simple Lonely Planet Tainan temples walking tour and I think they had a good time. After hearing so much bitching from some of the foreign students about just everything they see in Tainan it was extremely refreshing to hear that they were …

Riding a scooter or a motorbike in Taiwan

I just know this is how I’m going to end up here : It’s not about me. I’m relatively a slow and careful driver, even on a rush. My speed meter does work (:S), but I know that relatively slower than most other scooter drivers and I don’t think I ever go above 40-50km/h. Still, every day I have about 2 or 3 ”almost accidents” that either happen to me or somebody really close to me, and every once in a while, like in this photo I captured yesterday morning while driving on Gong-Yuan south road, things get nasty, really nasty. Foreigners like to make fun of the Taiwanese …

Introducing Israel to the Taiwanese students

The Taiwanese girl who’s the president of the NCKU IEAS student club, promoting international culture exchange, approached me a few weeks back and asked that I give an hour+ presentation about Israel. Without giving it much thought I agreed. Postponing everything to the last minute, I only started thinking about what to present the day of the presentation and was faced with the general problem of - what would Taiwanese students want to know about Israel? of all the things that Israel is about, where should I start? Actually, this is when this blog came in quite handy. I found out that I can actually use what I’ve been doing here, having quite a few resources about the Israel-Taiwan connection, with …
