Our moral nakedness : Taiwan, China, Israel, Palestine and the UN

It’s been almost a month since I received an email from a reader pointing me to an English article in Haaretz, my favorite Israeli newspaper, called “Our moral nakedness” :
[...] In other words, a casus belli that has everyone trembling. The UN secretary general, who received Chen’s official request to join, has not even bothered to send it for discussion in the Security Council, as is required. He preferred to return it to the sender. Europe, for its part, has informed Chen that his initiative is “not helpful” and is “liable to undermine stability.” The administration of United States President George W. Bush, which whole-heartedly praises liberty and democracy, has declared the initiative a “mistake” and has contributed a …

OMG! The craziest Taiwan so far - a public Tainan ghost sex show

The Real Taiwan has been doing a great job so far bringing special stories from things that are a bit strange and special about this part of the world, but TRT has a real jewel with this one - this has got to be the craziest thing I’ve seen or heard about in Taiwan yet.

Forget Betelnut girls and Betelnut beauty, this is absolutely insane. Next to the Tainan Park in Tainan was a public 35-years celebration for some God by having a public event of what can be described as a public sex show.

Cross cultural differences between people from the same culture : Introverts and extroverts

I believe the number one issue most expats or international students feel they face is cross-cultural difficulties. Most find it extremely confusing and frustrating, not being able to understand how a person might think or act so differently. But, interestingly enough, the one thing I realized pretty fast was that cross-cultural differences are just anther version for personal differences. People from the same culture can be quite different. It might be true that the stereotypical average for cultures is different, but when dealing with individuals and not on an organizational or national level, one must consider that personal differences might attribute for more variance than cultural differences. I’ll do the mistake of giving a personal example. In a stereotypical generalization, I find that I …

Beautiful Taipei city from the top of Taipei 101

I’m a big city kind’o guy, and I just love Taipei. Some of my fellow expats think I’m insane for saying that - “what the f&!k can you possibly like about a dump like Tai-bei?” one asked me at the Armory yesterday, and I simply responded - “I’m not sure, I think everything”. With the good and the bad, the new-sparkling and the gray-decaying that’s in Taipei, I think Taipei is beautiful. Visiting Taipei this weekend I got to revisit the Taipei 101 roof-top during wonderful weather and take a few snapshots from (still?) world’s number 1 overlooking beautiful mountains surrounded Taipei…  …

The gorgeous international students at NCKU

Came back from Taipei yesterday after visiting there with the National Cheng Kung University’s International MBA (NCKU IMBA) program students. Might write some more about that later, but in the meanwhile - I’ll share some random faces from my fellow students friends. It’s quite an amazing variety from all over the world (I hope I’m getting the countries right) : Vietnamese and Taiwanese   Indonesian, Filipino   …
