Taiwan in 2050 - a look at the future

Wonder what Taiwan would look like in 2050? Here’s an interesting project called "Vision of the Future - 2050" created by NCTU students :

-
I remember that while in Taiwan I saw a fascinating presentation in the Taipei City Hall, between the SYSMH and the Taipei 101, about Taiwan’s urban plans for the future. If you’re in the area, I suggest you drop by and have a quick look. It’s free.

Taiwanese universities : NCKU vs. NCTU

Now that I know that I’ve been accepted to NCKU and NCTU in Taiwan, and that there’s the Taiwan scholarship to back that up, there’s the simple yet difficult issue of where I should go. There are so many small details and so much uncertainty that I’m sometimes not sure what the right direction is. I’ll be spending the next year in Taiwan studying for an International Business PhD degree, other than that - I have no clue.

The Chinese origins of the Earl Grey Tea

Most people who like tea are familiar with the famous British Earl Grey Tea, but few know about its Chinese origins.

China Blog Awards - Best China Blogs 2007

Chinalyst, the community website for English language China blogs that I’ve started in 2006, is hosting the China 2007 Blog Awards. It’s quite remarkable that over the past few months Chinalyst has grown to include over a 100 English-language China bloggers writing about diverse China topics - China news, business, law, technology, travel, expat life, English teaching, Chinese studies etc., - all providing invaluable China information that cannot be found else where. The China Blog Awards is a tribute to those blogs and the hard-working bloggers behind them. During the last year there were a few unsuccessful attempts at building a …

The two doors of China : The man who stood against the tanks

To mark the 18th anniversary for the 1989 events, the Israeli Channel 8 aired an interesting documentary on the story of the man who was filmed opposing the tanks taking over Beijing. Ruth Kopeper, an Israeli TV critic for Haaretz, summarizes a strong critic of China and the supporting western societies based on the movie: [...] Since that event the China economy has grown by over 9% annually, today it’s the world’s 4th largest economic superpower. “China is the story of the 21 century and its roots are in that square” the film says. “You’re in a room with two doors - one political, the other economic, if you open the political door - you’re in trouble, if you …

Hotline: Help the migrant workers in Israel

The Hotline for Migrant Workers (HMW), established in 1998, is a non-partisan, not for profit organization, dedicated to (a) promoting the rights of undocumented migrant workers and refugees and (b) eliminating trafficking in women in Israel. We aim to build a more just, equitable and democratic society, where the human rights of all those residing within its borders are paramount civic and political values. [...]
We use a three-pronged approach to achieve our goals including:

Crisis Intervention: Volunteers have assisted over 35,000 migrant workers, refugees and women trafficked for the sex industry through our telephone hotline and visits to detention centers. …
