Israeli blogs about Chinese culture are quite rare, Chinese/Taiwanese blogs about Israel are even harder to find, but what I thought I would never find is an Israeli writing about Chinese culture in Chinese. I don’t read that much Chinese and what I do read takes me a very long time and so the chances of me running into a Chinese blog written by an Israeli, should one really exist, was close to none. But, surprisingly enough, I have a few wonderful readers who like to share their findings with me, and so this is how I got the link to next one.
Meet Violet, an Israeli young gal aged 16-17 who writes a blog in Traditional Chinese on the Taiwanese Yahoo :

Who is she?
Chinese - 大家好！我是ＶＩＯＬＥＴ，來自以色列，住在以色列，目前是高中生。
我的國家～以色列～使用的是希伯來文，中文是因為媽媽希望我將來能夠成為一個具國際觀的人而開始學習，中國文字真是既複雜又難寫呢！
因緣際會來到這個園地，為了紀錄自己生活上的點點滴滴而開啟了這個ＢＬＯＧ，歡迎大家蒞臨指教！
Bad translation - Hi everybody, I’m Violet, and I’m a high-school student living in Israel. In Israel we use Hebrew, but my mom wanted me to study Chinese so I will have an international perspective. Chinese characters are really complicated and difficult to write. This is to write about my various thoughts and you’re all welcome to comment (help?! corrections are very welcomed).
I admit I’m really struggling with her Chinese. Her level is much better than mine, and probably better than most 3rd year university BA students that I know in Israel. At first I was a bit puzzled about why an Israeli girl would start studying Chinese and how she got to being able to write a Chinese blog about her life, but with a little outside help I realized that although her father is Israeli, her mother is probably Taiwanese. Still, writing in Chinese is an ongoing challenge, and I salute her for her wonderful Chinese Israeli blog. If only I would have such will-power to do the same myself. No doubt a post in Chinese every few days could do wonders to my Chinese.

Wow. Her Chinese is quite impressive! The last sentence is particularly difficult. I think 因緣際會 is some Taiwanese colloquialism, and I have no idea how to translate it. The rest of the sentence would be “I opened this blog to write about a little bit about my life, your comments are all welcome.”

Yeah, I saw that on your blog. You were doing quite well, and pretty advanced too, I remember I was impressed (and I think it was the first time I noticed Adsense in Chinese
).

I think 因緣際會 could be interpreted as something happened by chance. However, according to Buddhism, far from being incidental, this occasion’s been brought together by invisible forces…seems paradoxical?

Yeah, one dictionary translated 因緣 to mean Karma, but I couldn’t find 際會 in any online dictionary.

A little bit more…
際is usually referred to the moment that things’re happening, such as 此際: at the moment. 會:the meeting/confluence. Therefore, 際會could be interpreted as the moment of confluence of every force/chance/idea..
