The Top Universities in Taiwan (ROC)
Which are the top universities in Taiwan? I’ve been looking into the Taiwanese university world and their recent rankings, trying to figure out how the university system in Taiwan works and ranks internally.
While visiting the Taiwan culture office in London, they gave me an information CD covering all the universities in Taiwan, which I uploaded to the Chinese Garden - http://www.chinese-garden.net/public/Study-in-Taiwan.exe (It’s an archived EXE, open the file to a directory and run the executable). It’s worth checking out if you’re interested in detailed information about universities in Taiwan.
Since I already built small comparison charts between the universities and researched a little, might as well share it with you.

According to the Institute of Higher Education of Shanghai Jiaotong University 2006 (World rank ; Asia rank) :
- Natl Taiwan Univ (151-200 ; 20-24)

(Yeah, NTU is the only one appearing in the top 200 universities list)

So, summing up, according to the world-rankings, NTU is high above all the others, while NCKU and NCTU are probably 2nd-3rd.

I would like to add one comment- for whatever it is worth- It varies with the majors and departments when it comes to the university ranking.
For example, if we talk about political science,business and humanity studying, National ChungChi university has a major position in Taiwan; regarding pure or computer science, Tsing Hua and Chiao Tung unviersities are on the top, some of the majors are even better than those in National Taiwan University.
This is my personal humble opinion

what are the best uni’s for engineering, especifically civil. Will those qualifications be marketable worldwide?
Dee - those are difficult questions, I’m not sure I have the answers for those.
But, with that said - NCKU is opening a new all-English program for Civil engineering which you should look into. The application deadline is this week, so you better hurry up.

Adline - Find a comprehensive university. I’d say NTU is always top, followed by NCKU and the others. Go to their websites, check their rankings. You have some research work to do.
i have search that kaohsiung medical university is offering bachelor degree in pharma. do you think it is a nice school for me to get in?
NTU and NCKU is good school as i have research but i dont think so that they’re offering bachelor degree in pharma coz as i have seen that they’re only offering PH.D and MD in pharma.but thanks for your suggestion..:)
Wow very informative site. I have been struggling over 5 months as to which university to do my MBA in Taiwan. I have been accepted to NTU but its quite expensive so i have not decided. I have Yuan Ze and NCKU as two other options. Which one do u think is best?
Marlyn - NTU is considered by most to be the top university in Taiwan and there’s a good reason for that. Expensive as it may be, I think it would be worth it. I’ve heard good things about their Global MBA program, and they offer a few scholarships that you can apply to as well.
Yuan Ze I don’t know very well, I’m afraid. I study with NCKU. There are advantages and disadvantages to studying with the program here and it depends what you’re looking for. If you have more specific question - I’ll be happy to help out. I strongly recommend visiting http://WWW.INCKU.COM and reading up on the information.
Thanks Fili. What would you say are the advantages of doing the IMBA at NCKU. I have also been accepted to NCKU.I want an MBA but want to concentrate in Finance, and i also want internship opportunities. Thats the hardest decision i have had to make in my life. Any advice?
Marlyn - I’m the wrong person to ask. I’d suggest coming down here to Tainan while semester is still running and attend a few classes, talk to some of the students 1on1. I suggest you do the same with NTU, NCCU etc. If you want me to suggest a class, I’d be more than happy to (Monday, 6:10pm, Guang-Fu campus, College of Management, 4th floor, room 62410). Internship opportunities - there are a few doing things in ChiMei and the likes during the summer break, but I’m not sure how that works exactly. I can get you in touch with the person in charge.

I would like to ask which universities in Taiwan are best for Hospitality and Tourism? Do they offered programs taught in English?
