The Chinese Netizens and Internet censorship

Background
The issue of Internet censorship has been on the international Internet agenda for a few years as part of a more general discussion on the topic of media and citizen control on freedom of speech in the People’s Republic of China.
The Internet poses unique challenges for the Chinese Government, due to the extremely high volume of information flow, and therefore requires a complicated mixture of laws, regulations, and enforcement measures – both social and technical. It seems that the main threat for the Chinese government with the Internet is the potential anti-government uprise which has actually sparked a few times in China in regard to national issues especially regarding the issues of corruption and freedom of speech. …

The Chinese Netizens

Definition
A Netizen[i] is an abbreviation for “Internet citizen” given to people who are highly involved with online communities, sometimes also referred to as a “cyberspace citizen”. My Taiwanese friends in Israel

While visiting the Taiwanese Chinese new years party a week ago with a Taiwanese student friend from the Hebrew University - Wen, I finally had the chance to meet Ruby who I know through her Taiwanese blogging about Israel and Violet who’s an Israeli-Taiwanese girl studying Mandarin Chinese through blogging in Chinese about her life in Israel. Israeli companies in China and Taiwan

With the growing presence of Israeli companies in China and Taiwan it’s pretty hard to keep track. For an updated list of Israeli companies that are doing business in China, you might want to check out the list on the "Trade Mission to China, Embassy of Israel, Beijing" website. The Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute also has a pretty useful online China forum for business in China.
When it comes to Taiwan, things get a little more complicated. In the past year or so I’ve …

East Asia and Business Studies 2007

Most of the courses that I took in the last semester were brilliant. Sagiv’s Cultures and Organizations was an in depth analysis into the complications of cross-cultural psychology, Kogan’s Urban Society in Contemporary China - Changes was a unique journey through modern China, Pinnes’ China 1917-1978 was an extraordinary overview of the most amazing political happenings of the 20th century China, and Mandarin Chinese, well, you know - it still is a frustrating fun challenge.
As the new semester at the Hebrew University is starting on the 25th, I’ve browsed through the selection of courses available for this semester to pick some what might be interesting for me to attend. I’m currently registered as …

Realizing your passion in life

Even though it’s been over 12 years ago I still remember it quite clearly. My friends and I would skip class to go play some basketball and hang out and David would ignore our social pressure and go play the piano. Back then, we couldn’t really get it, it was almost social blasphemy to prefer playing the piano over shooting hoops with the guys, but David kept on going with his 10+ hours a day venture into the world of music. I’m really proud of him. Of all the friends I have I think his story is the most amazing one and I am honored that he’s my friend. Down here in the blog, for almost a year now, I …
