Following the Haaretz newspaper daily I’m amazed at the number of ads that are referencing China and Chinese. Lately, there are more and more ads about China or ads using Chinese language to promote products and ideas.
The most obvious of those ads, which are sometimes hilarious, are the ones about investment in China which are usually found in the financial sections of the newspapers. Consider this next funny ad with a Chinese Statue of Liberty:

(The Hebrew ad writes – "China, the next financial superpower")
The less obvious ones are the ads that have nothing to do with China, but use the Chinese fashion to convey somesort of message. Take this next one for example:
(The Hebrew ad writes – "Does everything about cars sound like Chinese to you?")
When I mentioned this to some friends they didn’t really know what I was talking about. "What ads about China?" they asked, and so we arrived at the obvious conclusion that people are attracted to the ads that they naturally interested in. Like, when I bought my Peugeot car a while back, I kept seeing ads about Peugeot and noticing fellow Peugeot cars on the streets, which was strange because this car brand wasn’t that popular- when comparing it with the Korean and Japanese brand which rule the Israeli market – and I didn’t notice them before. But, with all that said, two people who know about my Chinese obsession asked me recently – "is it just me or are the newspapers full of China and Chinese related ads and articles?". Yep, there is something happening, and I’m not the only one noticing it.
