I’ve always thought that this blog was the only international English blog about the connection between Asia and Israel, trying to create a bridge between the two. To my extreme surprise I recently came across a blog that’s all about the Israeli-Indian connection, trying to bridge between the two countryies, being very sympathetic to both. Meet "Rupee - Currency or SOCA - Exploring relations between India and Israel", a blog that is "Working to build stronger political and business relations between Israel and India".
It’s intriguing to see some of the posts and content in this blog. Here are a few examples :
Friday, January 26, 2007 - Israel and India continue on the path of friendship
Ever since the Republic of India established diplomatic relations with the State of Israel in 1992, the collaboration between the two countries has blossomed. India is regarded[1][2] as one of the strongest allies of Israel in Asia. Both countries work closely against Islamic militancy and terrorist activities in the Middle East and Southern Asia.
Thursday, January 4, 2007 - Historic ties between Israel and India
There seems to be quite a bit of this type of information. New to me, but I will continue to follow this information on Indian Jews. Who knew?
India has had resident Jewish communities for almost two millennia. [...] According to the 1991 Indian census report, the number of persons reporting themselves as Jews is 5,271 (males: 2,766; females: 2,505), with 3,921 living in urban areas; and 1,350 living in rural areas. The majority are found to be living in the State of Maharashtra (3,294, i.e. 62.49 percent). [...]
(The blog goes on with an in-depth analysis of the hidden Jewish communities in India. Amazing)
Wednesday, January 3, 2007 - India, Israel relations have matured: Olmert
New Delhi, Dec 29 (IANS) Israeli Vice Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Thursday concluded his four-day visit to India on an upbeat note, saying bilateral relations had reached a point of "no return". [...] Olmert, who is also the minister for industry, trade and labour, projected bilateral trade to touch $5 billion by 2007. The figure crossed $1.6 billion in September and is expected to touch $2 billion by December end.
(Am I the only to whom this Olmert speech looks a bit familiar? does he give the same speech in all Asian countries?)
The blog even has a petition on its sidebar calling for closer ties and strategic partnership between India and Israel.
Mr. Prime Minister,
We the signers of this petition emplore you to work hard in accepting the friendship of the Israeli people. To better the standing of both of these great nations and improve security around the world. With common enemies, common friends and common family and educational values, this is a relationship that can flourish over the next 1000 years.
Imagine…PEACE

I find this to be somewhat surreal, although having seen it - maybe I should have one for Israel and EastAsia…
Extraordinary.
(I came across this blog while reading an article about the immigrants who are becoming a leading force within the US sillicon valley, that immigrant population coming mainly from India, Israel, and - yeah, you guessed it - Taiwan.)
