My sister has been telling me about the "far east market" for a while. This week she brought me the ad they published in the weekend paper "Kol Ha-ir". Looking at the ad, I thought there was something a bit strange about it.

Far-east market in Kol ha-ir (English)

Maybe it's just me, but I have a weird feeling that there's a general misinterpretation regarding what's far-east. I see so many Chinese medicine ads that have nothing to do with Chinese tradition, medicine and culture, and I visit so many Asian restaurants that have nothing to do with Asian food. It's just really fashionable to offer something that's China or far-east related lately, right?

Next time I take a drive to TelAviv, maybe I'll stop in Abu Gosh and see whether they have that cute Asian puppy doll playing that far-east saxophone.

    ahoy there,
So I’ve been wondering for some time…
What chinese restaurant *is* really chinese?
(and can a vegetarian soul find its reflection in their plates?)

    Laters…

OOoo… I’m glad that you asked that. It’s a good idea for a series of posts.

What I would suggest, as a start, is to see the gorgoues Taiwanese movie “eat, drink, man, woman”…

I’ll try and follow up on that question later on.

    Thanks :)
I’m looking forward to hear about it (specific recommendations s’il vous plait! or of course you can make a meal yourself..hehe..) as food is such an important factor in my life ;)

btw, yesterday as I was walking in Emek Refaim street in Jerusalem I saw many many chinese charms in the entrance of a sweet little new-age book store. they were so beautiful that I bought myself one as a gift!

    On one side it says:
    吉祥如意
    And on the other:
    財招進寶

    oooh, so happy!

Now I need to find the perfect place for it… :)
I only imagine you also fill your house with chinese stuff (I am only a beginner, considering I have never been to china… only drooling over the idea but with a whole lot of patience)

That would be all for now!
I wish us a good day!

    Nat.
