There's very little satisfaction a person, like myself, gets running a blog site that very few people read. The question of why I do it comes up often, if not from my friends and family then definitely from myself.
It's got a little to do with exhibitionism, I'm sure, and a little with wanting to keep track of special thoughts and moments in life.
Yet, every now and again – not too often, I get a small reminder of a very nice side-effect that blogging has, and that's the special occasion when I get to meet new interesting people through the blog, sometimes people from completely different cultures.

I think that throughout the entire time I've been blogging I probably received less than a dozen emails from people that have been reading what I write. Some of those were with some sort of requests for things which I enjoyed helping with. But, a few of them were people that didn't really want anything from me, but rather just wanted to drop by a personal letter or a comment about something related to the blog.
I'm always surprised when I get something like that, and I admit it warms my heart every time. Sometimes it develops into an email exchange or messenger-ing and I get to know both the person and the unique culture that s/he's in. Who knows, I might even meet some of them some day.

It's a big change from my very narrow Israel-Israel experience with people and cultures a few years back… it's all quite exciting.
