Israeli culture in a nutshell

A plate of Humos

  1. "I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now", as unrealistic as it may be.
  2. "There is no spoon" - no such thing as objective data, everything is open for interpretation. Gut instincts will always win over proven data and experts opinion.
  3. Unity for about a second, then ongoing acute international dispute.
  4. There are no private matters. Everything… everything… should be discussed publicly.
  5. There is no "face concept". "Face" is meant to be destroyed.
  6. "Guan-xi " - connections are everything, especially those you have from the army.
  7. No hierarchy, everybody's the big boss.
  8. Being in a group is always better than being alone.
  9. Love to hate yourself. Love to hate your culture. Always complain. Always make fun of those who complain.
  10. You 're wrong, I'm right.

:)

There are some good exchange programs in Israel with many of foreign universities. I suggest you check that out, maybe come visit Israel for a semester or two.

fiLi, your comments made me daydream of me enjoying myself and Israel…. ah, how wonderful that would be..!! But right now I can’t miss opportunities that York offers, Modern History of the Jews by the best prof whom I’ve ever had and some seminar courses. I will prepare, and then I will be so there in Israel someday. Hopefully when I get to a graduate school, exchange programs will be the perfect option. I’ve always thought, when I visit Israel I’d commit myself to a Kibbutz, but exchange programs also sounds great!

Todah for -:)
