Random Israeli conversations and statements I got to hear lately :
- "Do you have any family up north?" ; "Are you kidding me? My whole family is from up north and they're all staying in my tiny house till this whole thing calms down. We're 200% overbooked." (A friend)
- "They did what? THEY DID WHAT? Their missile took down a tall-building in Haifa? Damn those killing bastards, we should go in stronger and let them understand…" (A colleague)
- "If this is what you feel, then imagine how the Lebanese must be feeling towards what the Israeli army is doing there" ; "It's not the same, at least -we- tell them in advance what neighborhoods we're going to hit by both the media and Arabic brochures we throw down at them before we bomb. We didn't start this, we don't want this, we never wish for causalities." ; "Oh, that's just wonderful, then that makes everything perfect, doesn't it?" (A conversation with the same colleague)
- "I could never understand why the Israeli government is so soft and weak in their response. When I was in Russia and we were fighting the Afgans… " (A Russian-origin Israeli colleague)
- "Living in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem you have a hard time believing all that's going on. But when I open the news or talk to my friends and family, that's when I realize how bad things really are."
- "Yeah, I think going out to a bar or a pub in times like this is not appropriate but it's maybe okay to go see a movie" ; "How is a movie different than going for a drink?" ; "You know, a movie is like something you do home, going for a drink is like celebrating" (A conversation with a friend)
- "Before heading to Jerusalem from Tel-Aviv my mom told me to be careful. Not that Jerusalem is in any more risk of getting a missile than Tel-Aviv but the thing I don't understand is be careful of what? How can you be careful of a missile? What? What are you suppose to do exactly?" (A friend)
