Sex and the City : Beijing

A young Jewish girl with lots of "hotzpa", Su-Fei, goes out to the streets of Beijing to find love. Some amazing responses in there.

A wonderful Danwei production.

Seems like it's not a one time episode. Sexy Beijing's Su-Fei goes on with another one about English names -

[...] Oh dear, what will happen when the Chinese professor gets a hold of this video? were we looking at a soon-to-be-dead-person about to be hunted by a Chinese online mob?  Later on in the episode Su Fei hits the country side for a different kind of relationship showing us the simple life. I totally adore that show. Previous episode are "Lost in Translation" and "Looking for double happiness" . [...]

I do not think Su-Fei will really name her child as “Shemark” (A Jewish Slang). She is just kidding at the end, but many Chinese people does not know this Jewish slang. Anyway I like her sense of humor, Great.

    Jewish slang?
I’m a bit embarrased to admit that although I thought I knew something about Jewish folks, I don’t really know what Shemark means… what is it slang for?

    (Yeah, she’s a very witty gal…)

My first job, right after the 2 years military service, was in a Jewish footwear importer based in Machester and Boston on the East coast. Where I learned my English from daily works, and also picked up many dirty words, I imitated to speak the same way as they do even their accicents. May be my spelling is not correct, Shemark is a Jewish slang which means Man’s organ like a “Dick”. It can be used to mean other things, such as “Don’t be a shemark” means ” Don’t be a fool”, etc.

That’s “schmuck”, not “shemark”–it comes from Yiddish (the language traditionally spoken by Ashkenazi Jews of Central and Eastern European descent). Yiddish vocabulary really mostly comes from German, but it also has a lot of Hebrew, Aramaic, and Slavic words (Polish, Russian, Czech, etc.) thrown in. Anyway, “Schmuck” comes from the German “schmuck” which literally means “jewelry”, but has the slang meaning in Yiddish for a man’s organ.
