Organized Anarchy

After so many years, it’s still shocking for me to see how big organizations work, or rather - not work but still pull it off somehow. It doesn’t matter how big a believer you are in some big organization or in the products and projects that this organization is involved with, you still face the everyday question of how it manages to survive. There’s no escaping building up your own Organized Anarchy theory. I’m sure many have those (like, say, Dilbert’s), and each of those theories adds something unique.
After years of performing different low/middle-management roles and studying Organizational Behavior I’m still fascinated by organizations, and my interest with cultural differences - especially with the Asian twist - is taking it one step further.

Everyday I come back from work I have another Organizational Theory in mind about something I’ve experienced that day. In a way, as someone has suggested to me an hour ago, thinking about it conceptually just might be what keeps me sane (consider, for example, my Dominant Fit theory - Powerpoint-Link). I’m very interested in trying to learn more about the concept of Culture and Culture fit in the Far-East Organizational Behavior sense. Combining All-things-Asian with my interest in organizations and my experience with the hi-tech sounds very appealing to me.

Hmm… as someone who knows a lot about Asian business/company structure, I must admit I don’t share the appeal.

Japan is the worst, though. Blech. There’s no creative outlet for individualism.

I’d say the most dynamic Asians are the Taiwanese and the Chinese. In that sense, if you’re interested in organisational theory, you should probably look that way.
