- Hearing people call me by my Israeli name, after a year of only using ‘fiLi’.
- Using Hebrew. Hearing Hebrew.
- Having to choose from selection of Cheese variants in my fridge.
- Noticing how ‘big’ people are (size, height, belly, ass…).
- Wondering around the empty streets, breathing the Jerusalem air, seeing so much green.
- Sitting down for the Saturday holy day meals with my family.
- How straightforward, outgoing and somewhat cheeky most people are.
- Driving my car.
- Hearing news all the time, reading politics in the newspaper.
- How unbelievably expensive everything is.
- How interested folks here in how I feel and what I’m doing.
- Eating lots of Pitta and Hummos.
- Seeing that so many of the people I know are either in a serious relationship, getting married, already married or are having kids. Even friends that a year ago were devoted bachelors and I thought would not settle down soon.
- The soldiers and police force visible in the streets.
- Actually meeting my new niece.
- People don’t stare at me. When I’m wondering around, no body cares I exist. I’m just like everybody else.
- Paying a “security fee” at the restaurantnt, next to the 10%+ tip.
- Wearing the clothing in my closet. Feels as though I’m wearing somebody else’s.
- How different everything is.
- How everything’s exactly the same.
