RSS mania
[-Geeky techie alert- -Geeky techie alert- -Geeky techie alert- -Geeky techie alert-]
What are your RSS feed links?
I’m glad you asked, here’s a list of some RSS links that internet services I use offer:
What’s RSS?
Check everything on Wikipedia, the ultimate power of collaborative knowledge - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_%28file_format%29
Summary - RSS is a really simple and neat concept that allows getting updated-streams of Internet content. It’s been here for a while now, and has become very common the past year or so. If you’ve subscribed to email updates for this blog through the link on the main page, then what you actually did is register for a service that sends you email notifications when there are RSS feed updates of new content on this blog site.
Seems as though, nowadays, every thing is available on RSS feeds and every service that you subscribe to offers to update others on what you’re up to by offering them RSS.
So, many of the public tools that I use on the Internet offer RSS as well, and that might be an interesting way for you to use if you want to follow what I’m doing, for what ever strange reason that might appeal to you.
What tool should I to RSS?
Do all your email/newsgroup/RSS reading with the utlimate power of the open-source project “Thunderbird” - http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/
Okay, suppose I want to use that Thunderbird thingy, I downloaded it, what do I do now?
Oh, that’s easy - just follow the simple instructions on http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_RSS_Basics
Thunderbird? comeon! there’s got to be someother way for me to do RSS?
Hmm… if you use Firefox, as you should, then you might like Live Bookmarks, Internet Explorer 7 supports that as well. You can use some free RSS readers. A great standalone RSS feed reader that I use is Sharpreader.
But, but… I’m using Outlook Express/Outlook 2000-XP-2003, isn’t there something that reads RSS and integrates into that?
Sure there is, there are some good free tools out there. The one I would recommend which is free for personal use is IntraVNews - http://www.intravnews.com/
I’ve had a long day and I’m tired. This is WAY too much technobabble for me. Can’t I just get an update on Email instead of all this?
Sure you can.
Enter your email on the main page on the right sidebar and press “subscribe” to register for updates on my blog. After verifying your address, an email will be sent to you every time the blog updates (with an unsubscription link) -

Not too complicated, right? See you in RSS feeds… ![]()
