(forgive me father, for I have sinned. It’s been 6 days since my last confession)
.
It’s strange. There are times when my partner goes off to pursue various religion ventures and I have some free time for myself. Up till now, it has never done me good as my mind starts racing, my thoughts began to wonder and I turn into a state of total confusion.
Only exception so far was when I went for a stroll at Sydney’s China Town, walked around the market, sat down for some noodle soup with the rest of the Chinese and went to see the magical, funny and heartbreaking HongKong movie - “Wait till you’re older” (http://www.moviexclusive.com/review/waittillyouareolder/waittillyouareolder.htm).
Since I’m touring around with a specific someone, in a specific way, it makes it impossible or impractical to get to know anyone. Time off for my self would mean that I am - truly - by myself, and nothing else. It’s weird, but it makes Australia - with the the super-friendly Aussies - seem so distant. Experiencing this after my 6 month Asian love makes it even harder, as I constantly seek symbols of my Asian adventures and feel at home only at Asian surroundings. To my partner’s question as to what I think I might like to do - suppose I have no constraints - Iusually reply I would like to get know Asians better by studying an Asian langauge, taking up Far-East studies or maybe even working at Asia. Is that just a phase? I don’t know…
After exploring around, it seems that getting work in Australia through a legal process of obtaining a work VISA in a decent working place isn’t as simple as I hoped it would be. Australia is a great place to be at, if you either got the money or can somehow settle down. I would absolutely love to stay here and work, maybe study, but VISA regulations and government paperwork requirements make me want to give the whole thing with out a fight.
After leaving Sydney when Yum-Kippur ended we landed in the little 2-million-people Brisbane. It’s a lovely town, that takes a while to reveal all it’s secrets. Ever since we got to Australia we’ve been experiencing absolutely gorgeous weather so it seemed only fair that when we get to no-rain-possible-Brisbane the weather would turn bad. All the Brisbane people are mighty glad at the sight of rain, and we are happy for them, but it changed our plans considerably as my partner, and maybe myself, will head back home from here giving important Great Barrier Reef a pass. We did some of the obvious “abale-bo-la-luna-park” visit to Movie World and walked around the city looking for souvenirs.
I don’t do this often, not here anyhow, but this is something else - so I’ll make an exception. A very good friend of mine in Israel has sent me Intimacy with the “father-super-express-delivery” and I’ve read it all in one shot. If you’re into the sort of thing I’m usually into, and if you are then you’ll know what I mean, then just trust me on this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0571195709/202-9811607-7294205 .
