Ko-Phangan (take two)

Arriving at Ko-Phangan a day after the full moon party was probably a bad idea. Stepping down from the ferry I’ve started looking for a place to stay but everything was just packed with the party guys from last night. Tired and frustrated I went to an Israeli place named “Ha-bite” (Home in Hebrew) and met 3 nice Israeli gals that were having the same problem – two Kerens (A and B) and an Orit. We’ve decided to head to “The Cocohut” together and try to find some sort of cheap accommodation by sharing a room, but plan didn’t work out as well as we’ve hoped. Though our room was really nice and right on the beach it wasn’t a …

Farang

It’s going to be another hard day’s work at the beach. I start my day at around sunrise, with a sudden wakening by the turned-on TV. There’s some show running that folks here really adore, but to me it all looks alike. Me, I’m more of a Play-station person, running the computer games at the internet shops starting from dawn when work’s done and I’m excused to have some fun. We start by slowly sailing on our crappy boat to Ko-Samui. I enjoy those early moments of the morning, everything quiet, engine running at the background, waves splashing against the boat, big fish racing us, flag waving around in a systematic rhythm. Other people use that time to gain …

Ko-Phangan

I’ve been having the greatest time ever in Ko-Phangan, meeting a buncha people/girls, chilling out at this unbelievable mansion over a cliff overlooking paradise Leela Beach (the first time I just felt I had to take a picture).

Expectedly, my cellphone era is over. It’s completely locked and shut due to happenings I’m still pissed at. So, I’m not getting any messages. Sucks.

A truely happy Passover…

There was a big welcome Hebrew sign hanging up at the entrance of this expensive 5 star hotel, high up at the main mountain, looking down on a beautiful view. Everything was set up neatly - china plates, golden forks & knifes, like it was taken out of a mid-15th century European picture. As I was going in, the tall doorman smiled at me and greeted me with a warm "Happy Passover" and coming in the main hall I was surprised to see that I knew everybody. Anyone I've met this past month was there, even some people I had a hard time believing they were actually Jewish. They all seemed pleased, sitting around the round tables, sipping high-quality wine, …

Sex… it’s all around you…

It seems like everyone is doing it, but me. Or maybe it just seems like everyone is talking about it all the time. There’s no escaping the sex scene in Thailand, since it seems to be all people think about all day, at least at Ko-Samui …

Sitting down at the beach, listening to the great trance music in the background, I recognized someone walking by who looked familiar. I’ve seen him the day before at Beit-Chabad and he seemed as though he was through something very bad. I’ve tried talking to him and cheering him up, since I know I appreciate it when others do that to me, but he wouldn’t talk about it. Yet, on the beach, he seemed …

First month…

“Min… Minerali…” the weird man cried, looking desperate, seeking help. I was walking down the Chaweng Beach main road, looking for breakfast, as he approached me with a sad look in his eyes. I tried to understand what he was mumbling, but there was no way he’d come through. “Slowly, please, what is it you’re looking for?” I asked. “You… no no… me… this… min-mineral”. Looking at the way this guy dressed, I could tell that he’s new here. He was probably in his 50s, had this Moroccan Egyptian appearance, so I just gambled away with “You’re looking for a mineral store?” in simple Hebrew. He replied instantly in English – “yes yes, store…”, but after 3 seconds he gave …
