The Gilad-hiker guide ot the Thai-laxy (part 1)

Basic rules

  1. DON’T PANIC! (This is actually the only rule that really makes the Gilad-hiker guide much friendlier than the Encyclopedia-LonelyPlanetica).
  2. Always make fun of how other backpackers live, yet live exactly like one yourself.
  3. Tell others to explore-to take nothing for granted-and to experiment around, yet go only where others have recommended.
  4. Think about getting to know the real Thai-laxy, but spend all your time with tourists around shakes and massages.
  5. Act as though money here is no issue, yet count and argue over every Bhat like your life depend on it.
  6. They are Arsim, not us (right…)
  7. Find a less experienced bored backpacker to tell your whole trip story out to. It will me you feel like a Veteran, and hopefully indicate that he should treat you as a god.
  8. First 5 minutes of a conversation with anyone will include some or most of the following : where you’re from, where he’s from, where you’ve been to, where he’s been to, how you might know the same people or the same places etc.. One way to get around that is to make fun of the locals, but when so many of them know Hebrew so well - that might be a problem.
  9. It makes no sense, but there’s a rule stating that if you’ve started something - then you should finish it through to the end. The rule is followed by reasoning that since you can’t quit in the middle then you must spend a lot of time choosing your actions wisely. No matter how bad the massage hurts, or how spicy the food is, I’ve yet to see anyone leave in the middle or admit this is true.

Terrific list. I especially like number 3 and number 7.
